Closing out 2024, our service engineer Dr. Evan Spadafora, paid a visit to the University of Milano to install our #AXON and #FusionAX holder on their brand new Spectra 300 microscope. Combining EDS and the accurate drift control and focus assist of AXON Synchronicity, the team heated up Au/FeOx nanoparticles to over 900°C. While before the experiments, individual small Au NPs (red in EDS) can be seen amongst the FeOx (green in EDS) clusters, after heating revealed that the both the Au and FeOx coalesced into larger Au/Fe alloy NPs with little O remaining. With the electrical probes of the Fusion AX system located behind the viewing area, high EDS counts could be obtained without tilting the holder, using the full capabilities of the Spectra 300 microscope!

We thank the team at Uni Milano for their wonderful hospitality and are eager to see the exciting results coming from their new microscope and Protochips equipment!
