What you’ll do:
Protochips is growing our product development engineering team. We are seeking an engineer with experience in product development and who has led projects from ideation, prototyping, testing, design, validation, and product launches. This position will support existing product lines and explore new technologies to bring to market. This is a full time-position at our headquarters in Morrisville, NC. Occasional remote work may be available.
Evaluate market requirements defined from product line managers and execute on a product development process to bring new technologies to market
- Will be involved in projects at all stages, from prototyping through manufacturing
- Participate in customer and internal meetings
- Develop concepts and prototypes and provide test and validation reports
- Mechanical and electro-mechanical design of small precision assemblies
- Root cause analysis and problem solving
- Integrate with new or existing mechanical, electrical, and or software systems
- Assist vendors in design transfer and troubleshooting manufacturing processes
- Define product specifications and work cross-departmentally with the manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and the service organization to ensure success of product launches
What you’ll need:
- Understanding of a wide array of manufacturing methods. Supply chain management, including part fabrication, component selection, and assembly
- Creative and ready to express ideas
- Versatility will be highly valued, particularly mechanical and electrical engineering aptitude
- Strong hands-on experience with electromechanical products and systems
- Design of Experiments (DOE) experience and technical reports
- Experience with integrating embedded systems
- Familiarity with precision machining design principles
- Project Management
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Position Requirements
- B.S. in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- 3-10 years of Experience in Product Development
- Familiar with SolidWorks
- Primarily available on-site at HQ
- <5% travel both domestic and international
- Self-motivated and ambitious
- Excellent teamwork and people skills
