Position Summary: 

Working with the Sales and Marketing teams, this role connects leading microscopy research labs with our products, ensuring they are highly successful and achieving results. The Applications Scientist supports Sales efforts by demonstrating Protochips in situ solutions to potential customers with a focus on highlighting the value of in situ techniques in their research area. Also provides market and product feedback and guidance to our development and product management teams.

Collaborating with our other global Applications Scientists to author application notes and other technical product material and assist with post-sale technical and applications support of products. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys the cutting edge technologies in which a microscopist is involved but wants exposure to a broader range than what is experienced in a single research laboratory. The role requires a technically skilled, dynamic and curious microscopist who enjoys both teaching and learning about the many new applications within in situ microscopy.

Essential Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with customers and collaborators to identify key applications and trends for our product in cutting edge nanotechnology fields.
  • Provide R&D and Product groups with market information and customer feedback to ensure our products retain market leadership.
  • Support the sales process through customer meetings, presentations, and product demonstrations.
  • Train new customers and help ensure their research success.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and other Applications Scientists to develop applications methods and materials for customer use.
  • Deliver scientific talks at conferences and workshops.
  • Become a subject expert and resource for training and product support and input to others on our team.


  • PhD in relevant science or engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of direct experience in transmission electron microscopy
  • 1+ year of in situ electron microscopy experience
  • 2 year post doc or other commercial experience
  • Strong technical publication record as well as oral presentations
  • Excellent communication skills and high comfort level with customer interactions
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Mandarin
  • Capacity to work individually as well as in teams
  • Frequent travel required of approximately 50%
  • Possess valid passport and have ability to travel internationally
