Traversing the Periodic Table through Phase-Separating Nanoreactors

Atmosphere AX Publication Alert in Advanced Materials on Nanomaterial Synthesis!

Tuesday Publication Post! 📖 This newest work focuses on generating polystyrene-based nanoreactors that can be preloaded with metal salts from over 52 relevant elements, nearly the entire periodic table outside the alkali metals! This method can be used to synthesize a large amount of different types of nanoparticles. Using the #AtmosphereAX system in combination with #AXONSynchronicity, authors followed the last step of the nanoparticle formation; the thermal annealing to form a single nanoparticle.

Each nanoreactor undergoes a three-step conversion process:
1️⃣ Toluene vapor treatment to localize and precipitate precursors
2️⃣ Plasma removal of the polymer scaffold
3️⃣ Thermal processing (followed with #AtmosphereAX) (400–900 °C) to yield metal or metal oxide nanoparticles with controlled crystallinity

The result: a robust, substrate-general method for producing single- and multi-component nanoparticles essential for catalysis, energy materials, and next-generation electronics.
