Tuesday publication post! 📖 In this researched published by the #NIMS in Japan, researchers observed the sintering temperature of LiCoO₂ cathodes for battery applications using the #FusionAX system! 🔥 Using in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM), they observed how adding LiOH aqueous to the LiCoO2 powder dramatically improves cathode connectivity at lower temperatures:
↘️ With LiOH added: A liquid phase emerges at significantly lower temperatures, enhancing particle connectivity and boosting charge-discharge performance.
↗️ Without LiOH/pure water added: The sintering process requires higher temperatures, increasing the risk of unwanted side reactions with electrolyte materials.
With this research, the authors uncovered a simple yet effective strategy to optimize solid-state battery fabrication—which can finally lead to more efficient energy storage solutions!
