A milestone worth celebrating: our 100th Electrochemistry Liquid Cell publication! 📖⚡
In this new publication, researchers from #UniversitéeParisCité (Nathaly Ortiz, Damien Alloyeau, Enrico Daviddi, Louis Godeffroy, Nikan Afsahi, Yuhuan Wang, Marine Cheng, Jean-François Lemineur, Frédéric Kanoufi and Jean-Marc Noël) used the Poseidon AX system to investigate how the electron beam influences electrocatalytic reactions during operando electrochemical (S)TEM, providing important insights into interpreting in situ electrochemistry experiments.
Understanding electrocatalysts under realistic operating conditions is essential for designing better materials, but separating true electrochemical behavior from beam-induced effects remains a major challenge.
Key findings:
⚡ Demonstrated that while optical measurements show Ni(OH)₂ precipitation during the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), in situ EC-(S)TEM reveals beam-induced reduction of Ni²⁺ to metallic Ni.
🔬 Combined operando EC-(S)TEM with finite element modeling to distinguish the respective contributions of the electron beam and the electrochemical reaction.
📊 Established a framework for quantifying catalytic yields in EC-(S)TEM and for interpreting operando electrochemistry experiments with greater confidence.
