The main objective of this congress is to bring researchers together to discuss the progress of operando methodologies, i.e. characterization of functional materials in their working state. In operando studies, physicochemical methods probe the behavior of working materials while their performance is measured simultaneously. The operando approach is suited to elucidate catalyst structure-activity relationships at the molecular level. Both academia and industry recognize the importance of this approach that is now a well-established research area in catalysis.

The theme of this meeting is “Multiscale, Multimodal Microscopy for Multidisciplinary Research”. In recent years, microscopy technologies have become increasingly diverse and sophisticated, enabling seamless observation across scales from nano to macro and combining different modalities to generate new insights. Furthermore, interdisciplinary research is rapidly expanding, fostering integration across a wide range of fields, including medicine and life sciences, materials science (metals, inorganic, physical, and chemical), and information science.
The 249th ECS Meeting takes place at the Seattle Convention Center in Seattle, WA, from May 24–28, 2026. Anchored by the theme Sustainable Technologies, the meeting underscores the vital role of electrochemistry and solid state science in addressing today’s most pressing sustainability challenges. From clean energy and decarbonization to circular materials and climate-resilient systems, international researchers from academia, industry, and government come together to share breakthroughs that reduce emissions, conserve resources, and advance a more sustainable future. Through oral presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions, tutorials, and exhibits, the 249th ECS Meeting spotlights cutting-edge innovations that drive climate action, resource efficiency, and long-term planetary health.

We were excited to be a part of the joint Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia Genoa + DECTRIS Ltd. + Thermo Fisher Scientific Advanced (S)TEM Microscopy Workshop this week! There’s a great lineup of speakers covering various topics related to advanced analysis using the systems at IIT Genoa, including our Dr. Nynke Krans covering in situ TEM, as well as demonstrations on the microscope. Thank you to our Italian distributor Emme 3 Srl for the invitation to the workshop and to Dr. Giorgio Divitini of IIT for helping to organize such a wonderful workshop. More photos to come!
We were in Zakopane, Poland, together with our distributor PIK Instruments Sp z.o.o., Łukasz Remez and Stanislaw Sokolowski! The XVIIIth International Conference on Electron Microscopy (EM2024) brings together researchers from different fields who are all enthusiastic about electron microscopy. Our regional applications manager, Dr. Nynke Krans, gave a great talk showcasing the Atmosphere AX and Poseidon AX systems. We loved spending time drinking vodka and dancing with all the customers in Poland!
We hosted a two-day workshop at CCEM, where we delved into the cutting-edge realm of in-situ/operando microscopy and its latest innovations. This event boasted a stellar lineup of international speakers, ready to showcase their groundbreaking work and explore the applications of in situ microscopy and spectroscopy in advanced materials characterization. Our workshop covered a broad spectrum of topics, including liquid, gas, and electrochemical cell electron microscopy, AXON advancements, correlative microscopy, and the diverse array of applications spanning from batteries and biological imaging to nanomaterials. Expect an exhilarating experience filled with keynote addresses, oral/poster presentations, panel discussions on microscopy advancements, live Protochips tutorials, networking opportunities, and tours of CCEM.
The 2024 MRS Spring Meeting is the key forum to present research to an interdisciplinary and international audience. It provides a window on the future of materials science, and offers an opportunity for researchers—from students and postdoctoral fellows, to Nobel and Kavli Prize Laureates—to exchange technical information and network with colleagues.
The PICO conference addressed recent advances in methods and applications for the study of solids in condensed matter research and the life sciences by the application of advanced electron microscopy techniques.
The EcatalytiX symposium aims at taking a look at the current and future techniques, based on X-rays or electron beams, to observe these reactions under conditions as close as possible to operation.
