Upcoming Events

The main objective of this congress is to bring researchers together to discuss the progress of operando methodologies, i.e. characterization of functional materials in their working state. In operando studies, physicochemical methods probe the behavior of working materials while their performance is measured simultaneously. The operando approach is suited to elucidate catalyst structure-activity relationships at the molecular level. Both academia and industry recognize the importance of this approach that is now a well-established research area in catalysis.

The theme of this meeting is “Multiscale, Multimodal Microscopy for Multidisciplinary Research”. In recent years, microscopy technologies have become increasingly diverse and sophisticated, enabling seamless observation across scales from nano to macro and combining different modalities to generate new insights. Furthermore, interdisciplinary research is rapidly expanding, fostering integration across a wide range of fields, including medicine and life sciences, materials science (metals, inorganic, physical, and chemical), and information science.
The 249th ECS Meeting takes place at the Seattle Convention Center in Seattle, WA, from May 24–28, 2026. Anchored by the theme Sustainable Technologies, the meeting underscores the vital role of electrochemistry and solid state science in addressing today’s most pressing sustainability challenges. From clean energy and decarbonization to circular materials and climate-resilient systems, international researchers from academia, industry, and government come together to share breakthroughs that reduce emissions, conserve resources, and advance a more sustainable future. Through oral presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions, tutorials, and exhibits, the 249th ECS Meeting spotlights cutting-edge innovations that drive climate action, resource efficiency, and long-term planetary health.

The Ninth Conference on Frontiers of Aberration Corrected Electron Microscopy will be held in spring 2026 as an on-site event at Kasteel Vaalsbroek located at the bordering point of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium from May 3rd to May 7th, 2026. We will again address recent advances in methods and applications for the study of solids in condensed matter research and the life sciences by the application of advanced electron microscopy techniques. We are thrilled to announce Ondrej Krivanek and Max Haider as our Guests of Honor this year.
The 2026 MRS Spring Meeting & Exhibit, taking place April 26–May 1 in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, will convene materials researchers from academia, industry, government and national laboratories together for a week of cross-disciplinary collaboration and scientific exchange.
Electrocatalysis is the cornerstone of the next generation of technologies aiming to convert electrical power collected from intermittent, renewable sources into basic chemicals and fuels or the conversion of the latter in electricity. In this regard, electrocatalytic reactions, such as the electrochemical oxidation and reduction of water, the hydrogen oxidation or the carbon dioxide and oxygen reduction are all of critical importance.
