Protochips, Inc. is an early-stage company developing breakthrough analytical tools that allow more targeted research and development of nano-scale materials.  A fundamental problem that exists today is the tools used to observe and the tools used to work with nano-scale materials are separate and independent tools.  A strong market need exists to bring these two tools together.  Using its own proprietary technology platform, Protochips is addressing this compelling market need by transforming the most widely used tools in nanotechnology – electron and optical microscopes - from cameras into complete nano-scale laboratories. Our products will enable the study of materials for the life and physical sciences in ways currently not possible, and ultimately provide the solution that enables the development and commercialization of revolutionary new nano-scale materials.

Protochips, Inc. was founded by John Damiano, Ph.D., Stephen E. Mick, Ph.D. and David P. Nackashi, Ph.D. in North Carolina in 2002.  In 2006, Michael Zapata III joined the team as the Executive Chairman. The company was reincorporated in Delaware in early 2007.  The company operates in Raleigh, NC at Pylon Park near North Carolina State University’s Centennial Campus and the Research Triangle Park.
